The Verdon Regional Natural Park, in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, bears the name of the river which has shaped over the centuries these magnificent steep gorges, crisscrossed by paths which overlook superb Mediterranean panoramas.
These landscapes, admired by visitors from all over the world, make the reputation of this extraordinary natural park located in the Var. The Gorges du Verdon have an exceptional geographical location in Provence : they are located 45 min. drive from Aix en Provence and 1H15 min. from Marseille and the Mediterranean see.
The Gorges du Verdon extend from Castellane to Esparron. Up to the lake of Sainte Croix,in the departement of ALpes de Haute Provence, you’ll find “les hautes Gorges”. Up to the lake of Sainte Croix, you’ll discover the “Basses gorges” “Down Canyon” with faulous ladscapes of forests, calanques… and familial activities to do thaks to quiet calm waters without curent.

The Verdon stretches over 165 km and has a storage capacity of 434 million m3 of high quality fresh water, a precious reserve for supplying fresh water throughout Provence and the French Riviera. The depth of the gorges is 250 to 700 meters. Their width varies from 6 to 100 meters at the level of the Verdon river and from 200 to 1500 meters taking the distance between the summits of the gorges.

The Gorges du Verdon constitute a preserved geological treasure which offers a diversity of exceptional landscapes, with steep canyons, its tumultuous river alternated with reservoirs of a paradisiacal calm of a brilliant emerald green. You’ll discover the lake of Sainte-Croix which waters of exceptional purity are fluorescent, a phenomenon due to the fluorine content of its waters.
The natural park has been protected since 1990. It is labeled “Grand site de France”. Its rich flora is considerable since it represents a third of the French flora! During your walk or hike in the Verdon, you can also admire the diversity of animal species: The griffon vulture, the Bustard Canepetière, the eyed lizard (the largest in Europe) and many other wild species.
